Can you tell us where your event is located and how runners are able to travel there easily?

The start and finish of the marathon will be located at the Independence Square in the centre of Kyiv. It is conveniently accessible by subway through the stations Khreschatyk and Independence Square.

Are there different distances in your event?

As part of the marathon event the following races will be held:
Marathon - 42,195 m
Relay - 3 x 10 km x 1 х 12,195 km
Team 4 x 42,195 km
10 km street race
5 km free race
and children’s races of 1000 m and 300 m

Tell us something about the history of your event. Why was it created in the first place and how has it changed over the years?

Preparing for International marathon in Kiev began in 2009. The first Kiev marathon took place on the 16th of October, 2010. In the first year there were 546 participants from 13 countries, out of which 144 runners participated in a 42,195 m classic marathon.

In 2011 the second Kiev marathon gathered more than 1000 participants from 33 countries, a total of 315 athletes covered the marathon distance. 1336 participants from 28 countries participated in the third Kiev marathon which was held on the 6th of May, 2012, with 250 athletes running the marathon distance. In 2013, 1693 participants from 33 countries took part in the fourth Kiev marathon. Last year 451 sportsmen went out to cover the marathon distance.

Describe your route a bit. How’s the scenery? Is the route beginner friendly? Can runners expect PB’s?

Kiev marathon course is run as one lap. The course will cover both banks of the river Dnieper and participants will run over two bridges. The course is certified by Polish representative of AIMS.

How many runners do you expect to have in your event?

This year we will have the 5th edition of the marathon and we expect to see about 5,000 participants in total in all races.

What kind of weather conditions can runners prepare to face in your event?

The month of April is warm in Ukraine, so we assume to have a temperature around 20 degrees Celsius.

What else should runners do in the city after/before the race? Any suggestions to newcomers?

As part of the marathon we offer fair souvenirs. The Marathon Festival and pasta party will be in the event area.

How would you describe your event to people who haven’t yet participated in it? What makes your event unique?

Our unique marathon goes through all the historic streets of Kiev. Participants will be able to experience the city in a way only possible when running a marathon.

Anything else you want to tell about your event?

Every year we strive to a more international level. Every year we have more and more participants. Last year runners came from 40 different countries. This year we are arranging a jubilee marathon and we will make it a real treat! We are looking forward to seeing absolutely everyone there! We work with a travel agency, so the foreign participants do not need to worry about where to live during the event.
