The Marathon Alexander the Great connects past and future. The History of Macedonia region can be viewed through its 42 km. Pella, birthplace of Alexander and capital of Ancient Macedonia, is the starting area of the race and Thessaloniki, the capital of Greek Macedonia, hosts its finish.

Route description:

The Marathon route is of low difficulty. Its main characteristics are the small altitude fluctuations and the long straight street that make it ideal for PBs. Some other characteristic features are its constant eastern running direction and the limited inhabited areas which it crosses until almost the 30th kilometer.

The race starts from Pella, in front of the statue of Alexander the Great on horseback, hardly a kilometer from the homonym archaeological site, and some 43 meters above sea-level, at 8:00. The race finishes at the White Tower of Thessaloniki right on the seaside.

In addition to the marathon, there are two popular fun runs, 10 km and 5 km. The 10 km run starts from the Municipal stadium of Ampelokipi, 28th October str, (with direction to Megalou Alexandrou str.) at 08:45.
The 5 km race starts from Ampelokipi Central Square at 12:30.

Refreshment stations:

There will be 15 refueling stops for the runners along the marathon course, starting from kilometer 5.
Bottled water will be given at the start, at the finish and at every 2.5 km at marathon (37,5 km and 40 km stations also for the 10 km runners).

Isotonic drinks will also be available at the following stations: 10 km, 15 km, 20 km, 25 km, 30 km, 35 km, 40 km.
